Washington DC Metro
The Washington DC metro area plays its football across three jurisdictions. Teams in Maryland, Virginia and the District share the same Metro lines and the same Beltway, and the region has deep soccer roots from D.C. United to the immigrant communities that fill futsal courts on weeknights. The MCC Washington DC Metro tournament for 2027 uses three county grounds, each with up to 128 teams.
Three grounds, three champions
Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Washington DC Metro with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Futsal courts, league nights and a mix of communities
Washington draws people from everywhere, and soccer follows them. Salvadoran, Ethiopian, Brazilian, Korean and Pakistani communities all have teams in the metro area, and government and consulting offices field after-work sides in indoor leagues. Futsal in particular thrives in the suburban sports centers of Maryland and Northern Virginia, where a booked court on a Wednesday night is routine.
MCC takes in that range of teams under one format: five on the pitch, nine on the squad at most, 15-minute halves on a stop clock, amateurs only. A team that already books a court every week can enter as it stands.
Montgomery, Fairfax and Prince George's grounds
The three grounds are named for the counties that surround the District. Montgomery County covers Bethesda, Silver Spring, Rockville and Gaithersburg, reached by the Red Line and I-270. Fairfax County covers Reston, Tysons, Springfield and Fairfax City, along the Orange and Silver lines, I-66 and the Beltway. Prince George's County covers Hyattsville, Bowie, Largo and Laurel, on the Green and Blue lines.
Every ground holds between 64 and 128 teams and plays a round of its own. District teams pick whichever county is easier on a weeknight, by Metro or by car, and the cards above show where venues are confirmed and where one is still being sought.
Spring in the capital, then the Country Championship
April and May in this region run mild and often wet, after the cherry blossom peak at the start of the month. The group stage covers three weekends beginning 9, 16 and 23 April, playoffs start from 30 April, and a final at each ground falls on 9 May.
The Pitch Champions of the three DC grounds then travel to the United States Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027 and meet the winners from New York Metro and Boston, Philadelphia and Atlanta, Miami-Fort Lauderdale and Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth and Chicago, and Los Angeles Metro. The World Final is on 7 July.
Why one tournament across the DC line works
Local competitions in the capital area tend to stay within one state or league. MCC treats the metro area as a single place with three grounds, so a team from the District, a Virginia suburb or a Maryland town enters on the same terms: one Team License, amateurs only, a named Team President and a strict conduct policy.

Questions from Washington DC Metro
How does a team enter MCC in Washington DC Metro?
Register on this site and pick one of Washington DC Metro's three grounds: Montgomery County, Fairfax County, Prince George's County. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.
When does the tournament start in Washington DC Metro?
The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Washington DC Metro grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.
How many teams can play in Washington DC Metro?
Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.
What can a Washington DC Metro team win?
$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the United States title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.
Can a team from the District itself enter a county ground?
Yes. There is no separate District ground, so teams in the city enter whichever of the three county grounds is easiest to reach. Montgomery and Prince George's County sit just over the northern and eastern borders, with Fairfax across the river.
Who appoints the referees at a Washington DC ground?
Teams never do. A referee, two assistants and a fourth official are recruited through MCC's join page. A team registers on this site under a Team License, and its Team President, named on the entry, is the contact.
Is MCC connected to D.C. United or the Washington Spirit?
No. MCC is an independent amateur competition, and no professional club, league or stadium has any part in it. Teams from the Washington area enter on their own through a Team License.
Do government or office teams count as amateur?
Yes. Only amateur teams enter, and a workplace side of non-professional players fits. The Team President named on the entry answers for the squad's conduct, and the entry costs USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027.
