Munich

Munich is a Bayern city, but the football played on a Tuesday night is local and small. Kleinfeld and futsal teams book halls and artificial pitches across the Bavarian capital all year. Munich gets three MCC grounds in 2027, five weeks of 5-a-side starting 9 April, and a ladder whose top rung is the World Final on 7 July.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Munich with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Kleinfeld football in the Bavarian capital

Munich has two big clubs in the public eye, Bayern and 1860, and behind them a deep layer of amateur teams from the Bavarian league system down to company sides and friends who rent a pitch by the hour. Small-sided football runs on indoor courts in winter, then moves outdoors when the weather turns.

The MCC format asks little of a team that already plays this way. Teams of five, squads capped at nine, two 15-minute halves with the clock stopped for breaks, and a pool of four where everyone meets everyone before the knockouts.

North, East and Unterhaching: how the grounds sit

The North Munich ground covers the districts along the U2 and U6 lines toward Schwabing, Milbertshofen and the Olympic Park side of town. East Munich serves Haidhausen, Berg am Laim, Trudering and Riem. The third ground is named for Unterhaching, the town on the southern edge of the city, and takes in Giesing, Sendling and the south of the Munich area.

Every ground has a complete round of its own, so a team can take whichever is reachable by S-Bahn, U-Bahn or bike after work. A single venue per ground is picked through the MCC pitch owner programme, and this page names it when the agreement is signed.

Spring in Munich and the road to the German final

April in Munich is changeable: bright days, cold mornings, the odd late shower, and May usually warmer. Play starts on 9 April 2027. Group games fill three weekends (9 to 11, 16 to 18 and 23 to 25 April), the knockouts begin on 30 April, and 9 May is final day at every ground.

Munich's three champions are next seen at the Country Championship, 28 to 30 May 2027, in a field with Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt Rhine-Main, Dortmund and Stuttgart. The continental stage comes next, and the World Final falls on 7 July 2027.

Tournaments in Munich compared with MCC

Munich has plenty of one-day Kleinfeld cups and company tournaments, usually decided on a single weekend. MCC is a season with a published format, a $20,000 prize for every Pitch Champion and a route out of the city. Teams must be amateur, a Team President is named on the entry, and a zero-tolerance conduct policy applies to everyone.

Questions from Munich

How does a team enter MCC in Munich?

Register on this site and pick one of Munich's three grounds: North Munich, East Munich, Unterhaching/South. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Munich?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Munich grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Munich?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Munich team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Germany title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Can a Munich futsal or Kleinfeld team enter MCC?

Yes. Any amateur team of five to nine players can enter, whether it plays futsal in a hall, Kleinfeld on artificial turf or only casually. MCC uses 5-a-side rules with a stop clock, so a team that plays small-sided football will find the format familiar.

Do we need a club affiliation or a Bavarian league licence?

No. MCC needs one Team License per team and a named Team President. A team does not have to belong to a club or a league, though members of a registered amateur club are welcome as long as the team is amateur.

What if our squad lives in different parts of Munich?

Choose the ground that suits most of the squad. North Munich, East Munich and Unterhaching/South each run a complete round, and no ground has an advantage. Commuters from outside the city can pick the ground nearest their station.

What happens to a Munich team after the group stage?

The top two teams in each group of four go to the playoffs, which begin on 30 April 2027. A level playoff tie goes to penalties. The ground's final is on 9 May, and the Pitch Champion wins $20,000 and goes straight to the Country Championship.
