Vienna

Vienna is the only Austrian host city in the MCC Major Champions Cup, so its three Pitch Champions settle the Austrian title among themselves. The 2027 tournament has North, East and South grounds with up to 128 amateur teams each. Hallenfußball, Käfig and 5-a-side teams can all enter, and each Pitch Champion wins $20,000.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Vienna with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Käfig courts, Hallenfußball and club football

Football in Vienna lives in two places at once. Rapid and Austria Wien give the city its big club rivalry, and the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in the Prater hosts the national team. Underneath that, the cage courts known as Käfig, school halls and artificial pitches host countless weekday games between friends, workmates and neighbours.

A team that already plays Hallenfußball or in a Käfig league knows what MCC needs: nine on the sheet, five on court, two halves of fifteen minutes on a stop clock, and penalties to settle a level playoff tie at any stage.

North, East and South Vienna

North Vienna covers the districts across the Danube and along the northern lines, including Floridsdorf. East Vienna takes in Donaustadt, the area around the Prater and the Danube's eastern bank. South Vienna covers Favoriten, Simmering and Liesing. The U-Bahn, trams and the S-Bahn reach all three, so most teams can travel from home or work by public transport.

Every Vienna ground is meant to get a venue through the MCC pitch owner programme, with the name added to this page once signed. The live cards show which grounds are set and which still wait for a Vienna operator.

Vienna in April and May, and the road to Europe

Spring in Vienna is mild but moody: sunny afternoons can turn cool by evening, and showers pass quickly. Three group weekends open the Pitch Round on 9 April 2027 and close on 25 April. Playoff football starts on 30 April and the finals follow on 9 May.

Austria has no second host city, so the three Vienna Pitch Champions decide the Country Championship among themselves, 28 to 30 May 2027. Whoever wins it carries Austria into the continental stage, and the season ends with the World Final on 7 July 2027.

A season-long Vienna tournament, not a Turnier for a day

Vienna's small-sided scene has plenty of one-day Turniere run by clubs and firms. MCC is built as a season, with a published format, a fixed $20,000 prize for each ground winner and a route that leads to a World Final. Teams are amateur only, with a Team License, a Team President and a strict conduct policy.

Questions from Vienna

How does a team enter MCC in Vienna?

Register on this site and pick one of Vienna's three grounds: North Vienna, East Vienna, South Vienna. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Vienna?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Vienna grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Vienna?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Vienna team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Austria title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Can a Hallenfußball or Käfig team from Vienna enter?

Yes. Cage leagues and indoor halls are no obstacle: any amateur squad of five to nine players can enter. Matches use MCC's own 5-a-side rules, which differ from a local league's, so study them on this site beforehand.

Why do Vienna's champions play each other at the Country Championship?

Vienna is the only host city in Austria, so there is no second city to meet. The three Pitch Champions play the Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027, and the winner goes on to the continental stage.

Which Vienna ground suits teams from Favoriten or Floridsdorf?

South Vienna covers Favoriten and neighbouring districts, while North Vienna covers Floridsdorf. Each ground plays a full round, so choose the nearest one to your squad and stay there for the Pitch Round.

Can a team from a town near Vienna enter a Vienna ground?

Entry is open to amateur teams, and you choose one of the three Vienna grounds when you register. A team from a nearby town can pick whichever ground is easiest to reach by public transport on a weekday evening.
