Berlin

Berlin plays football on Bolzplätze, in park corners, on Kunstrasen behind sports halls and in the leagues run by its many Vereine. In 2027 MCC adds a Berlin 5-a-side tournament to that list: three grounds, North, East and South-West Berlin, each with up to 128 teams, a Pitch Round that opens on 9 April and a route to the German championship for every Pitch Champion.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Berlin with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Kleinfeld football across the city

Berlin is spread over a huge area and its football follows suit. Clubs from the amateur Bezirksliga up to Hertha at the Olympiastadion and Union at An der Alten Försterei sit alongside hundreds of casual groups who rent a Kleinfeld pitch for an evening. Hallenfußball in winter gives way to outdoor small-sided games when the weather improves.

That makes spring 2027 a natural time for a tournament. The format is five-a-side with squads capped at nine, and each match is two fifteen-minute halves with the clock stopped for stoppages. Teams already playing a weekly league or friendly round are who it is built for.

North, East and South-West on the Berlin map

North Berlin covers Pankow, Reinickendorf and Wedding, with the S-Bahn and U8 and U6 lines as the main routes. East Berlin takes in Friedrichshain, Lichtenberg, Marzahn and Hellersdorf, linked by the S5 and the U5. South-West Berlin spans Steglitz, Zehlendorf, Schöneberg and Wilmersdorf, reached by the S1 and the U9.

Each ground runs a separate Pitch Round, so a team can play near its own Kiez. Each ground gets exactly one venue, chosen from pitch owners who apply, and the cards further up this page track progress. A team can then pick the ground closest to its own Kiez and play its evenings there.

Berlin in April and May, then the German final

April in Berlin is changeable: sun, wind and the odd shower, getting steadily warmer into May. Teams play group matches over the April weekends beginning 9, 16 and 23 April 2027, then the playoffs start on 30 April, with finals on 9 May.

Berlin's three Pitch Champions travel to the German Country Championship, held 28 to 30 May 2027, where they face the winners of Hamburg, Munich, Cologne, Frankfurt Rhine-Main, Dortmund and Stuttgart. Europe's stage comes after that, and the World Final closes the season on 7 July 2027.

Compared with other Berlin tournaments

Berlin already hosts company cups, summer festivals and club-run Turniere, many lasting a single day. MCC is built as a season: groups of four, three matches each, a shootout settles any level playoff tie, and every Pitch Champion takes home $20,000. Only amateurs may enter, and each entry names a Team President.

Questions from Berlin

How does a team enter MCC in Berlin?

Register on this site and pick one of Berlin's three grounds: North Berlin, East Berlin, South-West Berlin. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Berlin?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Berlin grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Berlin?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Berlin team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Germany title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Can a Berlin Verein send a team?

Yes, as long as the players are amateurs. A club's casual side, a company group or a friends' team can each hold a Team License, with one named Team President on the entry.

Which Berlin ground suits a team from Kreuzberg?

Kreuzberg sits between areas, so choose by travel time. The U-Bahn and S-Bahn reach East Berlin and South-West Berlin quickly, and every ground plays a complete round, so there is no penalty for choosing either.

Is the Berlin tournament held indoors or outdoors?

MCC does not set the surface; the surface follows the venue confirmed for each ground. The Pitch Round falls in April and May, when outdoor Kunstrasen pitches are in regular use in Berlin. The live ground cards show which grounds have a venue.

How many Berlin teams reach the German championship?

One from each ground, so three Berlin Pitch Champions in all. They meet the winners from the other German host cities at the Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027.
