Zurich

Zurich gets its own MCC Pitch Round in April 2027: three grounds in the north, east and south of the city, each one taking between 64 and 128 amateur teams for 5-a-side, or Kleinfeld as it is often called in German-speaking Switzerland. Because Zurich is the only host city in Switzerland, its Pitch Champions go straight into the Swiss Country Championship at the end of May.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Zurich with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Small-sided football in Zurich

Zurich already runs on small pitches. Company teams book halls and artificial surfaces after work, student sides play around the university quarter, and neighbourhood clubs field Kleinfeld and futsal squads alongside their eleven-a-side teams. A group of colleagues or friends that meets weekly on a rented pitch is the kind of team MCC is written for.

The match format is short and clear. Squads hold nine at most, a match is split into 15-minute halves with the clock stopped on stoppages, and four teams share a group of three games before the playoffs. Penalties break any tie that is still level, so a knockout night always has a winner.

North, east and south Zurich on the map

North Zurich is built around Oerlikon, Seebach and Affoltern, all linked by S-Bahn and tram to the main station. East Zurich draws from Schwamendingen, Hirslanden and the lakeside districts, with trams and the Forch line doing most of the work. South Zurich covers Wiedikon, Enge, Wollishofen and Albisrieden, where trams and buses are the usual way in.

Each ground crowns its own Pitch Champion, so the sensible pick is the ground nearest home or work. MCC confirms one venue per ground through the pitch owner programme and announces it on this page once its agreement is signed.

April and May in Zurich, and the road to the Swiss final

The three group weekends are in April 2027, starting on the 9th, 16th and 23rd, when Zurich is typically mild with showers and temperatures around 10 to 15 degrees. Playoff football starts on 30 April and each ground plays its final on 9 May.

No other Swiss city hosts MCC, which means the Country Championship, 28 to 30 May 2027, is a three-way meeting of Zurich's own ground winners. The winner then moves to the continental stage, and the World Final is on 7 July 2027. Prizes run from $20,000 to $5,000,000.

Five weeks of fixtures and a ladder to the world

Zurich's ground plays from 9 April to 9 May 2027 under a format published in advance, and its winner moves into the Country Championship and then a worldwide ladder. Entry is for amateur teams only, with a Team President on every entry and a conduct policy that can lead to licence revocation without refund.

Questions from Zurich

How does a team enter MCC in Zurich?

Register on this site and pick one of Zurich's three grounds: North Zurich, East Zurich, South Zurich. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Zurich?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Zurich grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Zurich?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Zurich team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Switzerland title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Do professional players take part in the Zurich grounds?

No. MCC is for amateur teams only, so a Zurich squad of up to nine should be made up of amateur players. One Team License covers each team, and a Team President is named on the entry and answers for the squad's conduct.

Is Kleinfeld the same as futsal at MCC?

Not exactly. MCC is 5-a-side with a published format of its own: 15-minute halves, a clock that stops, a squad cap of nine and 40-minute match slots. A team used to Kleinfeld or futsal in Zurich will find it familiar.

How will Zurich teams know which ground has a venue?

A venue is announced on this page once its agreement through the pitch owner programme is signed. Cards on the page show which of North, East and South Zurich have one today and which are still waiting.

Where do Zurich teams go after winning a ground?

The champion banks $20,000 and moves directly into the Country Championship, 28 to 30 May 2027. With Zurich the only Swiss host city, all three ground winners meet there before anyone reaches the continental stage.
