Santiago

Santiago plays futbolito on synthetic canchas that fill up after work, from Maipu in the south-west to Las Condes in the east. The MCC Santiago tournament gives those teams a ladder of their own: three Metro grounds, a Pitch Round from 9 April 2027 and, because Santiago is the only host city in Chile, a Country Championship that leads straight to the continental stage and the World Final on 7 July 2027.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Santiago with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Futbolito, baby fútbol and the after-work cancha

Chileans call small-sided football futbolito, or baby fútbol in some barrios, and Santiago runs on it. Offices book a cancha for Wednesday, university friends keep a Saturday slot and neighbourhood teams play on pitches tucked behind the main avenues. Any of those teams can enter the MCC 5-a-side tournament in Santiago as a squad of five to nine players.

Each match gets a 40-minute slot and is split into two 15-minute halves with a stop clock. A group has four teams, each plays three matches and the top two go to the playoffs, where a level game is settled by penalties.

Metro grounds laid out along the city's lines

The North Metro ground serves Recoleta, Independencia, Huechuraba and Quilicura. The East Metro ground serves Nunoa, La Reina, Las Condes and Penalolen. The South-West Metro ground serves Maipu, Estacion Central, Pedro Aguirre Cerda and San Bernardo. Each runs its own round with 64 to 128 teams, so a squad can pick a ground on its own side of the city.

Most players reach a ground by Metro or by bus on the Red network, with the Mapocho and the Pan-American highway splitting the city into routes people know by heart. A squad can look for the ground nearest its regular cancha.

Autumn in Santiago and the road to the continental stage

April and May are autumn in Santiago, dry and bright with cold mornings. Groups fill three weekends, from 9 to 11 April through 23 to 25 April, with 16 to 18 April in the middle. Playoffs get going on 30 April and every ground settles its champion on 9 May.

Santiago has no sibling host city in Chile, so its three Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship (28 to 30 May 2027), which leads on to the continental stage. The World Final follows on 7 July 2027, the last step of the route.

Colo-Colo, la U and a tournament for amateurs

Colo-Colo, Universidad de Chile and Universidad Catolica give Santiago its football loyalties. None has any connection with MCC. The tournament is open to amateur teams, each with a Team President on the entry, and the Pitch Champion of every ground wins $20,000 and goes straight to the Country Championship.

Questions from Santiago

How does a team enter MCC in Santiago?

Register on this site and pick one of Santiago's three grounds: North Metro, East Metro, South-West Metro. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Santiago?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Santiago grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Santiago?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Santiago team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Chile title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Is futbolito the same game as MCC 5-a-side?

Essentially, yes. Both are played five against five on a small pitch. MCC allows squads of nine, and halves last 15 minutes on a stop clock. A team that plays futbolito regularly knows what to expect.

Which ground suits a team from Providencia or Nunoa?

East Metro, as a rule, since it covers the eastern communes. Each ground runs its own full round, so a team can also weigh how easy a ground is to reach after work.

Why does Santiago go straight to the Country Championship?

Santiago is the only host city in Chile, so there are no other Chilean cities to meet. The three Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027, and the continental stage follows.

Can a company or a school team enter?

Yes, if every player is an amateur. A company or school team registers like any other, with one Team License and a named Team President, and it plays under the same conduct policy.
