Porto Alegre

Porto Alegre divides its loyalties between Grêmio and Internacional, and the divide shows up on every pitch where friends gather to play. Futsal courts, society pitches and club halls fill the capital of Rio Grande do Sul. In 2027 MCC adds a Porto Alegre tournament for amateur 5-a-side teams: three grounds, group games from 9 April, and a route leading to the World Final.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Porto Alegre with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Gaúcho football on court and pitch

The Gre-Nal rivalry gives the city's football a sharp edge, and the amateur game reflects it. Gaúchos play futsal at school and in clubs, then move on to society leagues and company cups as adults. Churrasco after the match is part of the routine, and plenty of teams have played together every week for years.

A match is five a side. Squads go up to nine, and play is two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock inside a 40-minute slot. Each team in a group of four meets the other three, the best two advance, and penalties decide a playoff tie that ends level.

North, East and South Zone grounds

Porto Alegre spreads along the Guaíba lake and up into hills, and the three grounds follow that shape. The North Zone ground covers districts such as Navegantes and Sarandi. The East Zone ground draws on areas like Partenon and Lomba do Pinheiro. The South Zone ground serves Tristeza, Cavalhada and the neighbourhoods along the lakeshore.

The Trensurb train links the centre to the north, but the buses and the car carry most players. Teams should choose the ground that suits their commute, since each one runs a complete round. A single venue is signed for each ground under the pitch owner programme, and its name goes up here afterwards.

Cool autumn and the Brazil championship

Autumn is the cool season in Porto Alegre, with some April and May evenings dropping well under 15 degrees and the odd shower. The group stage starts on 9 April 2027 and continues on 16 and 23 April, playoffs begin on 30 April, and finals take place on 9 May.

Ground champions head to the Brazil Country Championship, 28 to 30 May 2027, joined by winners from São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Belo Horizonte and Curitiba. A continental stage follows that, and the World Final is on 7 July 2027, the last date on the ladder.

How MCC differs from a club cup

Clubs, companies and bars in Porto Alegre run cups that are usually settled in a day. MCC takes about a month, with a format published in advance, $20,000 for each Pitch Champion and a bracket that goes beyond Rio Grande do Sul. Only amateur teams may enter, with a Team President named on each licence, and the conduct policy tolerates no violence.

Questions from Porto Alegre

How does a team enter MCC in Porto Alegre?

Register on this site and pick one of Porto Alegre's three grounds: North Zone, East Zone, South Zone. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Porto Alegre?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Porto Alegre grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Porto Alegre?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Porto Alegre team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Brazil title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Can a mixed Grêmio and Internacional team enter?

Yes. Teams are just amateur squads of five to nine players, and club loyalty plays no part in who may enter. MCC has no tie to Grêmio, Internacional or any other professional club.

How cold does Porto Alegre get during the group stage?

Evenings in April and May can be cool, with occasional rain. Matches follow a fixed schedule in 40-minute slots, and the stop clock keeps playing time at 30 minutes. Group matches fall on 9 to 11, 16 to 18 and 23 to 25 April.

We play futsal on Tuesdays. Will we need a bigger squad?

Probably not. A squad can have up to nine, but five players can start a match and a few substitutes are enough. A typical futsal team already has eight or nine names, so the format suits it.

Can a team from the Serra or the coast enter?

Yes. A team from outside the city can choose any of the three Porto Alegre grounds, so it makes sense to pick by the route it will drive or ride on match days.
