Barcelona is a city of small pitches squeezed between apartment blocks, with futbol sala on every school court and in the municipal pavellons. MCC adds a 5-a-side tournament for 2027 with three Barcelona grounds: Badalone/North-East, L'Hospitalet/West and Castelldefels/South. Each ground crowns one Pitch Champion, and each champion takes $20,000 into the Spanish Country Championship.
Three grounds, three champions
Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Barcelona with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Futbol sala from the pavello to the platja
In Catalonia the indoor game is futbol sala, and the metropolitan area plays a lot of it. Neighbourhood clubs in Sants, Gracia and Sant Andreu run teams, companies keep weekly leagues, and groups of friends book a pavello by the hour. Outside, hard courts and beach pitches along the coast keep the game going into spring.
That depth of teams has few places to meet. A 5-a-side tournament covering the whole Barcelona area sets teams from different towns against each other under one published format, with a prize and a Spanish championship at the end of it.
Badalone/North-East, L'Hospitalet/West and Castelldefels/South
The three Barcelona grounds are placed around the city rather than inside it. Badalone/North-East covers the north-east coast, with Sant Adria, Santa Coloma and the Maresme gateway. L'Hospitalet/West covers the west and the Llobregat side, including Cornella and Esplugues. Castelldefels/South takes the south along the Baix Llobregat, with Gava, Viladecans and Sant Boi.
Metro lines, tram and Rodalies trains link all three, and each ground plays its own complete round of 64 to 128 teams. A team can stay in the area it knows. Which venue hosts each ground is settled through the MCC pitch owner programme, and the name appears here after signing.
April and May on the Catalan coast
April and May in Barcelona are mild, usually 15 to 21 degrees, with sea breezes and the odd shower. Group football fills three weekends from 9 April 2027 (the 9th, 16th and 23rd), knockouts start on 30 April, and each ground settles its champion on 9 May.
Barcelona's Pitch Champions go on to the Spanish Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027, where the Madrid, Valencia, Seville and Bilbao champions are waiting. Next is the continental stage, then the World Final on 7 July 2027, with prizes running from $20,000 to $5,000,000.
What sets MCC apart from a local torneig
Barcelona has plenty of one-day torneigs run by clubs and associations. MCC runs from 9 April to 9 May with fixed groups of four, three group matches, penalties for any level playoff, and a Team President named on every entry. Teams must be amateur, and each team holds one licence, so the field is made of the clubs and friend groups that already play here.

How does a team enter MCC in Barcelona?
Register on this site and pick one of Barcelona's three grounds: Badalone/North-East, L'Hospitalet/West, Castelldefels/South. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.
When does the tournament start in Barcelona?
The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Barcelona grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.
How many teams can play in Barcelona?
Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.
What can a Barcelona team win?
$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Spain title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.
Can a team from central Barcelona choose Badalone or L'Hospitalet?
Yes. Each ground runs a full round, and teams choose the one that suits them. A team from Eixample or Poblenou may find Badalone/North-East nearer, while Sants and Les Corts teams may lean towards L'Hospitalet/West.
Do we need to register under the Catalan federation?
No. MCC entry needs one Team License and an amateur squad of five to nine players with a Team President. Membership of a regional federation or league is not part of the entry.
Will the Barcelona matches be on parquet or turf?
That depends on the venue confirmed for each ground. The surface and address are shown on the city page after the venue's agreement is signed, and the ground cards show which are already settled.
How does a Barcelona winner reach the Spanish final stage?
The Pitch Champion of each ground is booked into the Country Championship over 28 to 30 May 2027, then onwards to the continental stage if it wins, with the World Final on 7 July 2027.
