Vancouver

Vancouver plays football in the rain, and does not mind. Turf fields under the mountains stay open all year, and futsal halls fill the evenings between October and March. The MCC Vancouver tournament puts three grounds across Metro Vancouver, opens its Pitch Round on 9 April 2027 and sends each Pitch Champion toward the World Final on 7 July 2027.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Vancouver with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Wet-weather football on Metro Vancouver turf

Most of the region's small-sided football is played on artificial turf, because grass fields turn to mud for much of the winter. Community clubs, work teams and recreational leagues book fields by the hour across Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey and the North Shore, and futsal has a growing following in indoor facilities. The city's Whitecaps play at BC Place downtown, and the soccer scene around them is large and well established.

The population of Metro Vancouver includes strong Korean, Chinese, Indian, Filipino and Italian communities, and many teams are built around community or language lines. MCC suits that structure: amateur squads of up to nine, one Team President per entry, five players a side.

North Shore, Burnaby and Surrey

The three grounds cover the region by geography. North Shore takes in North Vancouver, West Vancouver and the Lions Gate and Ironworkers Memorial crossings. Burnaby/East covers Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam and the Tri-Cities, linked by the Expo and Millennium SkyTrain lines. Surrey/South covers Surrey, Delta, Langley and White Rock, along the Expo line and the Highway 99 corridor.

Between 64 and 128 teams enter each ground. MCC confirms one venue per ground through the pitch owner programme and names it on this page after the agreement is signed. The cards above show which of the three grounds already have theirs.

April and May weather, then the Canada championship

April and May in Vancouver are mild and often wet, with highs of about 12 to 16 degrees. Group matches take place on 9 to 11, 16 to 18 and 23 to 25 April, and the playoffs open on 30 April. Every ground finishes with its final on 9 May.

Each Vancouver Pitch Champion heads to the Canada Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027, along with Toronto's and Montreal's winners. After the continental stage the World Final takes place on 7 July 2027. Across the tournament, prizes begin at $20,000 and end at $5,000,000.

How MCC compares with local cups

Vancouver has summer cups and league playoffs, but few events that lead anywhere beyond the city. MCC is a published ladder, with a group of four, three group matches, playoffs and penalties for a level tie. It is open to amateur teams only and enforces a zero-tolerance conduct policy that can end in licence revocation without refund.
