Monterrey

Monterrey is a football city with two big professional clubs and a long habit of organising its own games. Office teams, university friends and neighbourhood sides book fútbol rápido pitches across the metropolitan area all year. MCC offers them a Monterrey tournament in 2027 with three grounds, a Pitch Round from 9 April, and a route that leads through the Country Championship to the World Final.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Monterrey with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Fútbol rápido across the metro area

In Mexico the small-sided game goes by several names. Fútbol rápido, fútbol 7 and fútbol 5 all describe teams playing on artificial turf under floodlights, usually in leagues that meet once a week. Monterrey's industrial economy has fed that culture for decades, with company teams, engineering school sides and barrio leagues all competing on rented pitches.

A 5-a-side tournament in Monterrey asks little of a new entrant. Any amateur team of five to nine players that already plays together can register, and two fifteen-minute halves on a stop clock will feel familiar to anyone from the weekly leagues.

Apodaca, Santa Catarina and Guadalupe

The three Monterrey grounds follow the shape of the metropolitan area. Apodaca/North-East is based on Apodaca and the corridor towards the airport and the industrial parks. Santa Catarina/West covers the neighbourhoods along the Santa Catarina river towards the mountains. Guadalupe/South-East is centred on Guadalupe, close to the Cerro de la Silla and not far from Estadio BBVA.

People here mostly travel by car, with the Metrorrey lines and city buses filling in for those who do not. That is why each ground runs its own full round: a team picks the one nearest its home and plays every group match there. Venues are confirmed one per ground through the pitch owner programme and named on this page as their agreements are signed.

April and May in Nuevo León

Spring comes early to Nuevo León, and April and May afternoons often climb past 30 degrees Celsius. The Pitch Round opens on 9 April 2027 with group matches on 9 to 11, 16 to 18 and 23 to 25 April, before playoffs start on 30 April and every ground settles its champion on 9 May.

Each Pitch Champion goes straight to the Mexico Country Championship, held on 28 to 30 May 2027 with the champions from Mexico City and Guadalajara. After it comes the continental stage, and the World Final closes the ladder on 7 July 2027.

Monterrey tournaments and what MCC adds

Cup weekends and company tournaments are common in Monterrey, and most are over by nightfall. MCC is a different shape: about a month of fixtures per ground, a published format, a $20,000 prize for the Pitch Champion and a bracket that carries on beyond Nuevo León. Only amateurs may enter, a named Team President signs for each squad on its licence, and the conduct policy tolerates no violence from anyone.

Questions from Monterrey

How does a team enter MCC in Monterrey?

Register on this site and pick one of Monterrey's three grounds: Apodaca/North-East, Santa Catarina/West, Guadalupe/South-East. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Monterrey?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Monterrey grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Monterrey?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Monterrey team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Mexico title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Does fútbol rápido count as 5-a-side for MCC?

Yes. The game is five a side, with a squad of up to nine, halves of 15 minutes, a stop clock and a 40-minute slot per match. A team already playing fútbol rápido or fútbol 5 each week will find the rhythm familiar from the first whistle.

Can a team from outside Monterrey join a Monterrey ground?

Teams choose the ground that suits them, and the three Monterrey grounds are Apodaca/North-East, Santa Catarina/West and Guadalupe/South-East. A team based in the wider state can pick whichever of these it can reach most easily on match days.

Who appoints the referees at a Monterrey ground?

Teams never do. The referee, two assistants and a fourth official, along with the crew, are recruited by MCC through the join page. A Monterrey team only has to turn up for its 40-minute slots, with a squad of up to nine and a named Team President on the licence.

Are the Monterrey venues already named?

Not always yet. Each ground gets one venue, chosen through the pitch owner programme, and the page names it only after the agreement is signed. Check the ground cards to see whether Apodaca, Santa Catarina or Guadalupe already has one.
