Mexico City
Mexico City plays football on every kind of patch it has: concrete courts between apartment blocks, rooftop canchas, club turf and park pitches in every colonia. The MCC Mexico City tournament gives that daily game a framework: three metro grounds, a Pitch Round from 9 April 2027, and a route through the Mexico championship to the World Final on 7 July 2027.
Three grounds, three champions
Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Mexico City with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Fútbol rápido in the colonias
The local name for small-sided football is fútbol rápido, with fútbol 5 and fútbol 7 as common variants, and canchas rentables are everywhere. Weeknight leagues run in office neighbourhoods like Polanco and Santa Fe, in student areas around Ciudad Universitaria, and in nearly every residential colonia. Teams often have a nickname, a shirt sponsor from the corner business and a group chat that never goes quiet.
Club football is just as present. América, Cruz Azul and Pumas are among the biggest clubs in the country, and Estadio Azteca stands in the south of the city. That loyalty shapes how people play, with many amateur teams modelled on a club they follow.
North, East and South-West across the valley
Mexico City is large, so the three grounds are drawn by area. North Metro covers the north of the city and the municipalities on the border with the State of Mexico, such as Naucalpan and Tlalnepantla. East Metro takes in Iztapalapa, Iztacalco and the eastern edge. South-West Metro covers Coyoacán, Benito Juárez, Álvaro Obregón and Tlalpan. The Metro, Metrobús and Periférico connect them.
One venue serves each ground, which holds 64 to 128 teams. MCC confirms it through the pitch owner programme and names it here once the agreement is signed. The cards above show which grounds are settled and which remain open to a pitch owner in the metro area.
Warm months, the rains and the Mexico championship
April and May are warm and dry in the valley, often 28 degrees or more by afternoon, and the city sits at about 2,240 metres. The rains usually arrive around the end of May. Group games fall on 9 to 11, 16 to 18 and 23 to 25 April, with playoffs from 30 April and finals on 9 May.
Mexico City's Pitch Champions play the Mexico Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027 alongside the winners from Guadalajara and Monterrey. The continental stage comes next, then the World Final on 7 July 2027. Prizes begin at $20,000 and reach $5,000,000.
Local torneos and what a global ladder adds
Mexico City is full of weekend torneos, many with a cash prize for the winners. MCC is a longer competition with a published format: a group of four, three group matches, then playoffs and penalties for a level tie. Only amateur teams can enter, each names a Team President, conduct rules are zero-tolerance, and each ground's winner collects $20,000.

Questions from Mexico City
How does a team enter MCC in Mexico City?
Register on this site and pick one of Mexico City's three grounds: North Metro, East Metro, South-West Metro. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.
When does the tournament start in Mexico City?
The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Mexico City grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.
How many teams can play in Mexico City?
Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.
What can a Mexico City team win?
$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Mexico title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.
Is fútbol rápido the same as the MCC format?
Close. MCC is five a side with up to nine on the squad, two 15-minute halves on a stop clock and 40-minute slots. Teams used to fútbol 5 or fútbol rápido will recognise the match rules and find the structure around them new.
Which Mexico City ground should a team from Coyoacán choose?
South-West Metro covers Coyoacán, Tlalpan, Benito Juárez and Álvaro Obregón, so it is the natural fit. Teams can enter any of the three grounds, and each runs its own complete round.
Does altitude change how Mexico City matches are played?
The rules are the same everywhere: 40-minute slots, two 15-minute halves and a stop clock. Squads of up to nine allow rotation, which helps at 2,240 metres. The venue confirmed for each ground is announced on this page.
Can teams from the State of Mexico enter through the Mexico City grounds?
Yes. North Metro covers areas bordering the State of Mexico, including Naucalpan and Tlalnepantla. Teams should choose the ground they can reach on a weeknight, and the entry process is the same for every team.
