Melbourne

Melbourne is a city of winter sport, and its football players keep going through the cold months in indoor courts and on lit synthetic pitches. The MCC Melbourne tournament 2027 sets up three grounds, in the north, the east and the west and south, with a Pitch Round from 9 April and a Country Championship to follow in May.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Melbourne with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Where Melbourne already plays futsal

Indoor futsal has a strong following here, partly because the city's weather pushes small-sided games under a roof. Leagues run in suburban sports centres, and mixed teams of workmates, school friends and old club players are common. The wider football scene includes Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City, alongside a landscape dominated by Australian rules in the winter months.

The MCC format caps a squad at nine and plays two 15-minute halves against a stop clock, each match filling a 40-minute slot. A group has four teams and every side plays the other three, after which the two best go into the playoffs. Level playoff games are decided by penalties.

North, East and West-South: reading the Melbourne map

The three grounds follow Melbourne's tram and train lines. North Melbourne covers Brunswick, Preston, Coburg and the corridor toward Epping. East Melbourne takes in Camberwell, Box Hill and the Ringwood side. West-South Melbourne spans Footscray, Sunshine, Altona and the bayside suburbs through to Moorabbin. Teams choose the ground they can reach easily on a weeknight.

Melbourne's public transport network of trams, trains and buses reaches most of these areas. Only one venue will hold each ground, selected under the MCC pitch owner programme, and this page names it once the agreement has been signed. Which of the three are already taken shows on the live cards.

Autumn in Melbourne and the way to Sydney

April and May are autumn in Melbourne, with maximums between roughly 15 and 20 degrees, cool mornings and changeable weather. Group games take over the weekends of 9, 16 and 23 April, knockout rounds open on the 30th and every ground wraps up on 9 May.

Melbourne's three Pitch Champions then travel to the Australian Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027, which also includes the champions from Sydney. After it the continental stage begins, and the World Final is on 7 July 2027, with prizes running from $20,000 to $5,000,000.

Melbourne tournaments and how MCC is set up

Melbourne has social leagues, company days and club cups. MCC is built as a connected season: a fixed format, a Pitch Champion prize of $20,000 and a ladder that reaches the other side of the world. It is open to amateur teams only, a Team President is named on every entry, and a zero tolerance conduct policy can end in licence revocation without refund.

Questions from Melbourne

How does a team enter MCC in Melbourne?

Register on this site and pick one of Melbourne's three grounds: North Melbourne, East Melbourne, West-South Melbourne. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Melbourne?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Melbourne grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Melbourne?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Melbourne team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Australia title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Which Melbourne ground suits a team from the bayside?

West-South Melbourne is drawn to cover the west and the south, including the bayside suburbs toward Moorabbin. A bayside team will usually find that ground closest, but any team may choose the ground it can reach.

Can a Melbourne social futsal league team enter?

Yes. A team of up to nine amateur players and one Team License is all that is needed. Existing futsal and 5-a-side leagues are an obvious source of entries, but a team put together just for MCC is welcome too.

How many matches does a Melbourne team play in the Pitch Round?

A team in a group of four plays three group matches across the April weekends from 9 April 2027. The top two go to the playoffs from 30 April, and each match gets a 40-minute slot on a stop clock.

Will Melbourne teams meet Sydney teams?

Yes, at the Country Championship for Australia on 28 to 30 May 2027. Pitch Champions from both cities qualify directly, and the winners then go on to the continental stage, with the World Final on 7 July 2027 as the last step.
