Lille

Lille is a football region before it is anything else, and the metropolitan area has plenty of indoor and outdoor five-a-side halls. MCC brings a 5-a-side tournament to Lille in 2027 with three grounds: Roubaix/North-East, Villeneuve-d'Ascq/East and Lomme/West. Each one crowns a Pitch Champion worth $20,000, and that team goes straight into the French Country Championship at the end of May.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Lille with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Foot a 5 in the Lille metropolis

Small-sided football in northern France goes by several names: foot a 5, futsal, foot en salle. The Lille area has a deep habit of it, with company teams, student sides from the university campuses at Villeneuve-d'Ascq and Lille itself, and groups of friends who book a pitch by the hour after work. Most of them play inside their own league or workplace.

A 5-a-side tournament across the whole metropolis changes that. A side from Roubaix can draw a side from Lomme, and the result counts toward a place in the French Country Championship, a route that a weekly league seldom offers and that gives every game a purpose.

Roubaix/North-East, Villeneuve-d'Ascq/East and Lomme/West

The three Lille grounds follow the shape of the metropolis. Roubaix/North-East covers Tourcoing and the textile towns along the Belgian border. Villeneuve-d'Ascq/East takes the east and south-east, around the campuses and the stadium district. Lomme/West anchors the west, with Lambersart, La Madeleine and the Deule valley close by.

The metro and the tram link most of this area, with line 1 serving Villeneuve-d'Ascq and line 2 running through Roubaix and out to Lomme. Each ground holds from 64 to 128 teams and plays its own full round, so a team chooses the closest one. The venue for each ground is chosen via the MCC pitch owner programme; its name goes up on this page when the agreement has been signed.

April and May in Nord

Spring in Nord is mild and changeable. Expect highs around 13 to 17 degrees, some showers, and long evenings by early May. Football starts on Friday 9 April 2027 and groups are played over the next three weekends; the knockout rounds begin on the 30th, and the Lille grounds close their rounds with finals on 9 May.

Each of the three Pitch Champions then plays the Country Championship over the last weekend of May 2027 (28 to 30), facing the sides that came through in Paris, Marseille, Lyon and the other French grounds. After that is the continental stage and, on 7 July 2027, the World Final.

How MCC compares with the local cups

Lille has a busy calendar of one-day foot a 5 cups and club evenings, and many are well run. MCC is built differently: a published format with groups of four, three group matches and penalties for any level playoff tie, and prizes that run from $20,000 to $5,000,000 up to the World Final. Amateur teams only, one Team License each, and a named Team President.
