Amsterdam
Amsterdam plays football on every scrap of flat ground it has: school courts, canal-side cages, hall floors rented by the hour for zaalvoetbal. In 2027 the MCC Major Champions Cup sets up a 5-a-side tournament across three grounds: North, Zuidoost and West. Each one crowns a Pitch Champion, who wins $20,000 and plays on for the Dutch title.
Three grounds, three champions
Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Amsterdam with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.
North Amsterdam
64 to 128 teams · $20,000 to its Pitch Champion
Zuidoost/East
64 to 128 teams · $20,000 to its Pitch Champion
West Amsterdam
64 to 128 teams · $20,000 to its Pitch Champion

Zaalvoetbal, street courts and Sunday clubs
Dutch football starts young and starts small. Most players in Amsterdam have spent years on futsal floors, fenced street courts and club pitches shrunk to fit five players, long before they join an adult side. Ajax gives the city its football identity, but the weekly game happens in neighbourhood sports halls and on artificial grass, and plenty of friends and colleagues already play together in an evening league.
A team like that has what MCC asks for. You need five on court, up to nine on the squad sheet, and legs for two halves of fifteen minutes on a stop clock. A group of four and three matches decide who reaches the playoffs, and a level playoff tie goes to penalties.
North, Zuidoost and West on the map
The three Amsterdam grounds split the city along its natural lines. North Amsterdam sits across the IJ, reached by the free ferries from behind Centraal Station or by the metro line that now runs under the water. Zuidoost/East covers the Bijlmer area on the metro out past the Johan Cruijff ArenA. West Amsterdam spans the neighbourhoods inside and beyond the ring road, served by trams and, as ever, by bicycle.
Each ground runs a complete round of its own, so most teams pick the one nearest home and play there for the whole Pitch Round. A venue is confirmed for each ground through the MCC pitch owner programme, and this page names it after signing.
Amsterdam tournament calendar and the Dutch championship
Spring weather in the Netherlands is cool mornings, sudden showers and wind off the water, with the odd bright afternoon on an artificial surface. Opening weekend is 9 to 11 April 2027, followed by two more group weekends on 16 to 18 and 23 to 25 April. Knockout football starts on 30 April and the ground finals land on 9 May.
Rotterdam's winners join the three Amsterdam Pitch Champions at the Netherlands Country Championship, 28 to 30 May 2027. Beyond that sit the continental stage and, on 7 July 2027, the World Final, where the top prize is $5,000,000 and the lowest is the $20,000 each ground winner takes.
A season, not a one-day Amsterdam cup
Amsterdam has plenty of company cups and summer five-a-side days that finish by dusk. The MCC tournament is built differently: a published format, a Team License for each team, a named Team President on every entry and a fixed prize for each ground winner. Only amateur teams can play, and the conduct policy is zero tolerance, with licences revoked without refund for serious breaches.

Questions from Amsterdam
How does a team enter MCC in Amsterdam?
Register on this site and pick one of Amsterdam's three grounds: North Amsterdam, Zuidoost/East, West Amsterdam. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.
When does the tournament start in Amsterdam?
The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Amsterdam grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.
How many teams can play in Amsterdam?
Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.
What can a Amsterdam team win?
$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Netherlands title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.
Can a zaalvoetbal team from Amsterdam enter the tournament?
Yes. Indoor zaalvoetbal and futsal sides are welcome, as is any other amateur squad of five to nine players. MCC uses its own 5-a-side rules, so check the format on this site before your first match.
Which Amsterdam ground is closest for Amsterdam-Noord players?
North Amsterdam is the ground for the area across the IJ. Teams from Noord can reach it without crossing the city, and the Pitch Round is played entirely at your own ground until the Country Championship.
Is Zuidoost the ground for Bijlmer and Amsterdam-Zuidoost teams?
Zuidoost/East is the ground for the south-eastern districts, and it also suits teams from the eastern edge of the city. You choose a ground when you register, so pick the one that works for your squad on weekday evenings.
Do Amsterdam teams play Rotterdam teams?
Yes, at the Netherlands Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027. The Pitch Champions from the three Amsterdam grounds and the three Rotterdam grounds meet there, and the winner moves on to the continental stage.
