Abuja
Abuja is a planned capital with its football spread across its districts, from school fields in Garki to private pitches around Wuse and Jabi. No other Nigerian city hosts, so a team winning an Abuja ground carries the whole country's entry. The 5-a-side tournament opens on 9 April 2027, and the ladder ends at the World Final on 7 July.
Three grounds, three champions
Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Abuja with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Where Abuja plays small-sided football
Nigeria plays football everywhere, and in the capital that means hired pitches, office leagues, estate courts and school grounds, with matches often after work. The Super Eagles are followed closely here, and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium is a landmark of the city. Small-sided games suit a place where space is planned and compact.
MCC keeps to a simple format: up to nine players, two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock, 40-minute slots and a group of four. Any amateur team with a regular weeknight game can enter, whatever its level or its age group.
Garki, Wuse and Jabi
The three Abuja grounds take the names of districts. Garki is the southern and older part of the central area, Wuse is the main commercial and residential district, and Jabi lies to the north-west near the lake and the Jabi Boulevard. Each ground draws teams from its own neighbourhoods and the areas around them.
People move by car, taxi, ride-hailing and bus, and rush hour can stretch any trip across the city. A team should pick the ground nearest its squad, because each one plays a full round and crowns its own champion before the national stage.
The rainy season, and one city for all of Nigeria
April and May in Abuja are hot and humid, with the rainy season building and storms in many afternoons. The Pitch Round opens on 9 April 2027 and closes on 9 May. Group matches take three April weekends, playoffs follow at the month's end and each Abuja ground's final falls on the last day.
Since Nigeria has no second MCC host city, the three Abuja Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship, 28 to 30 May 2027, and from there to the continental stage. The World Final on 7 July is the last date in the calendar.
What MCC adds to football in the capital
Corporate cups, estate tournaments and festival weekends already fill Abuja's calendar. MCC adds a set format, a $20,000 purse for each Pitch Champion and a route that leaves the city. Teams must be amateur, with a Team President named on the entry, and serious conduct breaches meet zero tolerance: licence revocation and no refund.

Questions from Abuja
How does a team enter MCC in Abuja?
Register on this site and pick one of Abuja's three grounds: Garki, Wuse, Jabi. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.
When does the tournament start in Abuja?
The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Abuja grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.
How many teams can play in Abuja?
Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.
What can a Abuja team win?
$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Nigeria title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.
Which Abuja ground should a team from Maitama or Gwarinpa choose?
Wuse or Jabi are the nearest of the three by road for most Maitama and Gwarinpa squads. Pick whichever is easier after work, because each ground plays its own round and none has an advantage.
Are Abuja teams competing with teams from Lagos or Kano?
Not in the Pitch Round, which each ground plays on its own. Abuja is the only Nigerian host city, so its three champions are the country's route to the continental stage through the Country Championship.
Which Abuja ground covers Wuse and where is each ground venue named?
The Wuse ground covers the Wuse district, Garki covers the southern central area and Jabi the north-west by the lake. A venue is confirmed individually through the pitch owner programme and announced on the Abuja page after its agreement is signed.
Can a company or estate team enter the Abuja tournament?
Yes, if its players are amateurs. One Team License covers the squad, nine players at most, and the entry names a Team President. Workplace sides, estate teams and friends who play together are all welcome.
