Accra plays football on any patch of flat ground it can find: school courts, church compounds, sand lots near the coast and open plots behind the beach roads. The MCC Accra tournament gives that habit a proper 5-a-side season in 2027, with three grounds in the city, five weeks of fixtures beginning on 9 April, and a road from a neighbourhood final to the World Final on 7 July.
Three grounds, three champions
Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Accra with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Small-sided football in Accra
Most Accra players learn the game in small groups on hard surfaces, long before they join an eleven-a-side club. Street games in Nima, Jamestown and Madina, workplace teams in Airport City and Ridge, and campus sides at Legon all run on the same idea: five or six a side, quick touches, no space to hide. A squad that already meets weekly has the habits MCC rewards.
The tournament keeps things plain. Each squad carries up to nine players, a half lasts 15 minutes with the clock stopped for stoppages, and a group of four plays three matches before the playoffs. If a playoff ends level, penalties decide it, whatever the stage.
North Accra, Tema/East and West Accra grounds
The three grounds follow how the city is laid out. North Accra serves the neighbourhoods around Madina and Adenta, Tema/East takes in Spintex, the port city of Tema and the communities toward the airport, and West Accra covers the areas toward Dansoman, Kaneshie and Weija. Each ground runs its own complete round for 64 to 128 teams, so a team chooses the one closest to home.
Trotros, shared taxis and ride-hailing cars are the usual way across Accra, and traffic on the main roads can turn a short trip into a long one at the end of a working day. That is the reason for three grounds rather than one: a team should be able to reach its matches without crossing the whole city.
April and May in Ghana, and the way to the continent
April and May fall in the main rainy season in Accra, with heat, humidity and the odd heavy downpour. The Accra Pitch Round opens with group matches over three weekends, 9 to 11, 16 to 18 and 23 to 25 April, and the playoffs start on 30 April. Each ground then holds its final on 9 May 2027.
Ghana has no other MCC host city, so the champions of the three Accra grounds make up the whole field at the Country Championship, from 28 to 30 May 2027. The continental stage follows it, with the World Final on 7 July.
How MCC differs from other Accra tournaments
Accra has no shortage of knockout cups run for a weekend or a festival. MCC is organised as a season instead, with a published format, fixed dates, $20,000 for each ground's champion and a route toward the World Final. Squads must be amateur, each with one Team License and a named Team President, and everyone plays under a zero-tolerance conduct policy.

How does a team enter MCC in Accra?
Register on this site and pick one of Accra's three grounds: North Accra, Tema/East, West Accra. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.
When does the tournament start in Accra?
The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Accra grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.
How many teams can play in Accra?

Do we need a pitch of our own to take part?
No. Matches are played at the venue confirmed for your ground, and teams do not need to supply a pitch. You only need a squad of up to nine amateur players and a Team President named on the entry.
What happens to the Accra Pitch Champions after 9 May?
All three go to the Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027, because Accra is the only Ghana host city. The Country Championship winner continues to the continental stage, and the World Final follows on 7 July 2027.
Which Accra ground is closest for a team from Dansoman or Weija?
West Accra covers that side of the city, including Dansoman, Kaneshie and the road toward Weija, so it is the natural fit. Each ground runs a complete round of its own, and a team enters the ground that its players can reach most easily on match days.
