Tbilisi

Tbilisi stretches along the Mtkvari river, and on both banks there is a pitch tucked behind a school, a sports hall or a block of flats. Minifootball and futsal teams play there through the week. MCC brings a full tournament season to the city in 2027, with three grounds, a Pitch Round that begins on 9 April and a route out of Georgia toward the World Final on 7 July.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Tbilisi with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Where Tbilisi already plays minifootball

Georgian players know the small-sided game as minifootball, and futsal has its own following. Sports halls in Saburtalo, school courts in Gldani and artificial pitches in Vake host evening games, often between friends who have played together since school. Dinamo Tbilisi and Locomotive have long fan bases, and plenty of amateur sides pick a side early.

A team already booking weekly slots in any of those districts has what it needs. MCC uses squads of up to nine and matches of two 15-minute halves on a stop clock, played in 40-minute slots, so the pace will feel familiar to anyone from a futsal hall.

Reaching the North, East and South-West grounds

North Tbilisi is the ground for Saburtalo, Didube and Gldani. East Tbilisi covers Isani, Samgori and Varketili across the river. South-West Tbilisi takes in Vake, Vera and Mtatsminda, plus the districts toward the western edge of the city, where the river valley opens out.

The metro runs through much of the north and east, buses and marshrutka minibuses fill the gaps, and taxis are cheap and easy to hail. Each ground holds 64 to 128 teams and plays its own full round, so the aim is a short evening trip, not a cross-city journey.

April showers, May warmth and the Georgia championship

April in Tbilisi swings between rain and clear, warm days, with highs around 18 to 24 degrees by May. Group stage weekends are 9, 16 and 23 April, then comes the knockout stage from 30 April, and each ground's final falls on 9 May.

Georgia has no other host city, so the three Pitch Champions from Tbilisi go together to the Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027. The winner of that weekend takes Georgia into the continental round, with the World Final of 7 July 2027 as the last step.

A league-style season instead of a cup weekend

Many small tournaments in the city finish in a day. MCC runs a published format in which every team plays three group matches in a group of four before playoffs, with penalties deciding any level tie. Each team has one Team License and a named Team President, and only amateurs enter.

Questions from Tbilisi

How does a team enter MCC in Tbilisi?

Register on this site and pick one of Tbilisi's three grounds: North Tbilisi, East Tbilisi, South-West Tbilisi. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Tbilisi?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Tbilisi grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Tbilisi?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Tbilisi team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Georgia title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Does a Tbilisi minifootball club count as an amateur team?

Yes, as long as the players are amateurs. The club enters as one team under one Team License, with a named Team President and a squad of up to nine players.

Which Tbilisi ground is closest to Vake?

South-West Tbilisi covers Vake, Vera and Mtatsminda. A team can enter whichever ground it reaches most easily, because each one runs a separate complete round of its own, with its own Pitch Champion.

Can a team that lives outside Tbilisi but works there enter?

Entry is by ground, so choose whichever of the three Tbilisi grounds is easiest to reach on a weekday evening. The team still needs one Team License, a named Team President and amateur players.

Do Tbilisi matches use a stop clock like futsal?

Yes. Each half is 15 minutes on a stop clock, so time is paused when play stops, which is familiar from futsal. Matches take a 40-minute slot, and a level playoff tie goes to penalties.
