Naples

Naples plays football on every surface it can find: courtyards, church halls, seafront concrete and the synthetic pitches that fill the suburbs. Calcetto is the everyday version of the game here, and MCC turns it into a tournament in Naples with a clear route. Three grounds, Casoria/North, Pomigliano/East and Pozzuoli/West, open the 5-a-side Pitch Round on 9 April 2027, and each Pitch Champion moves on to the Italian championship.

Three grounds, three champions

Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Naples with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.

Calcetto in Naples and the towns around it

Ask a Neapolitan where they play and the answer is usually a calcetto pitch booked by the hour, with a group chat to organise the squad. The sport is played at every level, from friends on a Thursday evening to company sides and parish teams, and the city's devotion to Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona means almost everyone has an opinion on the game.

That culture suits MCC well. Five players a side, nine on the squad list, a stopped clock over two quarter-hour halves: it is calcio a 5 with a published ladder attached. A team that already meets weekly has the core of an entry.

Casoria, Pomigliano and Pozzuoli on the map

The three Naples grounds follow the metropolitan area rather than the old centre. Casoria and the north cover the towns beyond Capodichino and Secondigliano. Pomigliano and the east serve the communities toward Vesuvius and the Circumvesuviana line. Pozzuoli and the west reach Fuorigrotta, Bagnoli and the Phlegraean coast, which the Cumana railway and metro line 2 connect to the centre.

A ground takes as many as 128 teams and plays a round of its own, which lets a side book the one nearest home and plays its evenings there. MCC confirms a single venue for each ground via its pitch owner programme, and the name appears on this page after signing.

Spring in Naples and the road to the Italian final

April and May bring mild, mostly dry weather to the Bay of Naples, with temperatures that suit evening football. Group matches are played on the weekends starting 9 April, 16 April and 23 April; the playoffs open on 30 April and the Casoria, Pomigliano and Pozzuoli finals are on 9 May 2027.

The three Naples Pitch Champions then go to the Italian Country Championship, held 28 to 30 May 2027, to meet winners from Milan, Rome, Turin and Bologna. Later come the continental stage and, for the best teams, the World Final on 7 July 2027.

Other tournaments in Naples compared with MCC

Naples has plenty of summer calcetto cups and one-night festivals, usually decided in a weekend. MCC is a whole season with a published format, groups of four with three matches each, penalty shootouts for level playoff ties, and a $20,000 prize waiting for every Pitch Champion. Professionals are out; each amateur entry names a Team President, and misconduct is met with zero tolerance.

Questions from Naples

How does a team enter MCC in Naples?

Register on this site and pick one of Naples's three grounds: Casoria/North, Pomigliano/East, Pozzuoli/West. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.

When does the tournament start in Naples?

The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Naples grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.

How many teams can play in Naples?

Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.

What can a Naples team win?

$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the Italy title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.

Can a calcetto team from a company or parish enter?

Yes. Any amateur side of between five and nine players can register under a Team License. Company, parish, university and neighbourhood sides all qualify, as long as nobody on the squad is a paid professional.

Which Naples ground suits a team from the city centre?

Pick by transport and by where the squad lives. Metro line 1 and the Cumana line make Pozzuoli workable from the west of the centre, while Circumvesuviana stations serve Pomigliano. Every ground runs a full round.

Is the Naples tournament played on grass or synthetic turf?

MCC does not set the surface. Most calcetto sites around Naples use synthetic turf, and each ground's venue is named on this page once its agreement is signed, so check the live ground cards for which of the three have one.

Where does a Naples Pitch Champion play next?

A Pitch Champion advances to the Italian Country Championship on 28 to 30 May 2027. Three Naples teams reach it, one from each ground, and they meet champions from the other Italian host cities. After that come the continental stage and the World Final of 7 July 2027.
