Glasgow
Glasgow is a city that argues about football all week and plays it most nights. Indoor halls, school pitches and floodlit synthetic grass fill with five-a-side teams from September to May. The MCC Major Champions Cup brings a 5-a-side tournament to three Glasgow grounds in spring 2027, with a path from a local final to a country title and the World Final on 7 July.
Three grounds, three champions
Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football on each ground leave Glasgow with three Pitch Champions, and each goes straight to the Country Championship.
North Glasgow
64 to 128 teams · $20,000 to its Pitch Champion
East Glasgow

Five-a-side across Glasgow's districts
Small-sided football in Glasgow runs on booked hours. Teams book a floodlit pitch or a sports hall for an evening, play a league fixture or a friendly, then go for a pint. Workplace sides, university teams from the west end, pub teams on the Southside and groups of friends from the same street all play this way, and many have done so for years without any chance of a bigger prize.
The MCC format is built to slot into that routine. A squad sheet holds nine players at most, each half lasts 15 minutes on a stop clock, and a match takes a 40-minute slot. A group of four plays three matches, two sides from each group move on to the playoffs, and penalties break any tie.
North, East and South Glasgow grounds
The three grounds follow the way the city is laid out around the Clyde. North Glasgow draws on Maryhill, Springburn, Possilpark and the streets running up towards Bishopbriggs. East Glasgow covers Dennistoun, Parkhead, Shettleston and Dalmarnock. South Glasgow takes in Shawlands, Pollokshaws, Cathcart and Rutherglen, where the Southside blends into Lanarkshire.
Buses, trains out of Queen Street and Central, the suburban lines and the Subway loop will get most squads to a ground. Every ground takes between 64 and 128 teams and produces its own champion, so a team can stay in the district it knows. A venue is signed for each ground in turn, and the live cards show it once the agreement exists.
Spring weather and the road to the Country Championship
Spring in Glasgow means cool air, frequent showers and light until well past eight by the closing weeks. Three April weekends carry the group games (9 to 11, 16 to 18 and 23 to 25), knockout football begins on 30 April, and every ground's final is on 9 May.
Winners of the three Glasgow grounds go on to the United Kingdom Country Championship, 28 to 30 May 2027, alongside champions from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, Leeds and Newcastle-Gateshead. The continental stage follows, and the World Final is on 7 July 2027, the last date on the ladder.
Compared with the usual Glasgow cup days
Glasgow already has charity cups and works tournaments, normally wrapped up in an afternoon. MCC is a five-week season instead, with the fixture dates set out in advance, a Team Licence per side and a named Team President. Only amateur teams may enter, and the conduct policy tolerates nothing: a licence can be revoked with no refund. Each ground's winner takes home $20,000.

Questions from Glasgow
How does a team enter MCC in Glasgow?
Register on this site and pick one of Glasgow's three grounds: North Glasgow, East Glasgow, South Glasgow. One Team License per team: USD 1,200 for one year until 1 March 2027 (then 2,500), or 5,000 for three years. Payment and KYC verification follow the application.
When does the tournament start in Glasgow?
The Pitch Round runs 9 April to 9 May 2027 on all three Glasgow grounds. The group matches are played on 9-11, 16-18 and 23-25 April, the playoffs from 30 April, and each ground's final on 9 May. Pitch Champions go straight to the Country Championship on 28-30 May 2027.
How many teams can play in Glasgow?
Up to 384: each of the three grounds takes up to 128 teams, and each needs a minimum of 64 to run its round. A full ground puts an entry on its waitlist instead of turning it away.
What can a Glasgow team win?
$20,000 per Pitch Champion, $150,000 for the United Kingdom title, $500,000 continental and $5,000,000 for the World Champion - plus championship rings from Country level up.
Which Glasgow ground suits a team from Springburn or Rutherglen?
Springburn sits in the area served by North Glasgow and Rutherglen in the area served by South Glasgow, so each can enter the ground nearest home. Squads travelling after work can check the bus, train or Subway route to a ground before registering, and the live cards show which grounds already have a venue.
Can a team from Edinburgh or Paisley enter the Glasgow tournament?
Glasgow is the Scottish host city, so teams from other towns register for one of its three grounds. The Team President named on the Team License answers for the squad and its conduct, and entry is open to amateur teams only.
Is Scottish futsal different from the MCC 5-a-side format?
MCC is five a side on a stop clock, with the usual squad of up to nine. Teams used to futsal rules or to Scottish small-sided leagues will adapt quickly. The match officials work to the published MCC format, and teams never appoint them.
Which Glasgow venues are confirmed for 2027?
One venue is confirmed for each ground through the pitch owner programme and named on this page after its agreement is signed. The live cards show which of North, East and South Glasgow already has a venue and which is still open to applications.
